Cowboy Bob's Cowboy Dictionary – Dixie

Dixie

A 10 dollar bank note issued privately by Banque Des Citoyens De La Louisiane — a French bank in Louisiana prior to the Civil War. The bill was called a “dixie” because the French word for ten — “dix.” — is printed on the bill. Eventually, the southern U.S. became known as “the land of Dixie.”
